Reprinting or Duplicating Copyrighted Edvantia Publications
All Edvantia publications are copyrighted. Please read the copyright statement to determine whether written permission is required to reproduce part or all of any specific document. In many cases, written permission is required and a fee may be charged. (If you find a document on our Web site that is copyrighted by another organization, please contact the copyright holder for permission to reprint.)
To request permission to reprint, fill out the form and fax it to the attention of Carolyn Luzader at 304.347.0487. You will receive a response within two weeks of submitting your request.
Fair Use
Many people are familiar with this term, but don’t fully understand it, and it’s true that the distinction between fair use and copyright infringement may be unclear. Fair use is defined as reproduction without the need for permission—generally of a brief excerpt only—for such purposes as criticism, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research. Please note that commercial use is not allowed under the fair use section of copyright law.
Teaching is the area in which confusion most often arises; a classroom teacher of any P-16 grade may successfully argue that fair use applies to materials used during teaching and learning sessions. A person who teaches as a consultant—one who provides a commercial service—may not use copyrighted materials without permission from the copyright holder. If you are unclear about which category your use belongs in, play it safe and ask for permission to reprint.
Fair Use Citation
If your reproduction of copyrighted materials qualifies as fair use, you do not need to request permission from Edvantia. However, please cite Edvantia as the copyright holder on every copy you make. Please use the following citation:
