Diagnose District Functioning with New Tool
Edvantia has partnered with the Council of Chief State School Officers to produce the District Audit Tool and related software. States can use these to determine which districts require the highest levels of support, what kinds of support they need, and how to allocate resources. See The District Audit Tool, free online, for a literature review on district effectiveness; a description of the tool and how it works; and details on its use in Nevada, South Dakota, Wyoming, and West Virginia.

The Adolescent Literacy Crisis
One fourth of the nation’s 8th and 12th graders cannot read at even the most basic level, and the statistics are even worse for African American and Latino adolescents, according to data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress. Learn more about the adolescent literacy crisis on a webcast sponsored by the Appalachia Regional Comprehensive Center (ARCC) at Edvantia and coordinated by the Center for Excellence and Equity in Education at George Washington University.

Surprising Facts about U.S. Education
An estimated 1 in 50 children are home schooled. Nearly 1 in 5 U.S. students were born to U.S. immigrants—and 3 in 4 of these students were born in the United States. These and other findings are reported in an easy-to-read format in a new report from the Center on Education Policy: A Public Education Primer: Basic (and Sometimes Surprising) Facts About the U.S. Education System.

Research about Advanced Placement
Should high schools offer more Advanced Placement classes to meet demand? Do students who take more AP classes do better? Read Edvantia’s monthly Research Corner page in District Administration magazine to learn what the research suggests about AP and student achievement.

Get Quality Professional Development for School Performance Coaches
Edvantia’s School Performance Coaching™ institutes will bolster school improvement specialists’ ability to coach teachers and administrators as they work to help schools achieve AYP—or move from good to great. Based on research and our own experience in working with low-performing schools, these institutes cover the foundations and seven domains within a school that need to be addressed to improve student performance. Edvantia can also design an intensive, long-term program of training for your state or district—something we’ve done successfully in Tennessee.
