Random Assignment vs. Random Selection
Random assignment happens when researchers use a lottery-like procedure to assign research participants to either an experimental or control group. Random selection happens when researchers use a lottery-like procedure to select individuals from a larger population to serve as a representative sample of that population. See an example of the latter in Edvantia’s portfolio.
