      Culturally Competent Evaluation:
New Resource Authored by Edvantia’s Dr. Laura Plybon

Responsibly evaluating programs that serve various cultural and ethnic groups requires an understanding of the demographics, values, and circumstances of those being served. A good starting point is a new online resource from the Tobacco Control Evaluation Center at the University of California-Davis. The section on evaluating programs with African American populations was authored by Dr. Plybon, who welcomes your questions, comments, and suggestions.

Rural Blogging Continues!
The Center on Education Policy has released a report comparing rural and nonrural districts’ experiences with NCLB. The national sample of 349 districts included 116 rural sites. For key findings and a link to the report, see Dr. Caitlin Howley’s June 18 “rural reminder” post on the AERA Rural Education Special Interest Group.

Dr. Sabrina Laine (National Comprehensive Center for Teacher Quality), Dr. Suzanne M. Wilson (Center for the Scholarship of Teaching, Michigan State University), Dr. Susan Bunch (Assistant Commissioner, Tennessee Department of Education), and others discussed the topic during ARCC’s June 26 webcast.
