Ready-to-Use Resources Can Help Parents Stay Involved
Educators and families can find simple, fun activities to do with children on the West Virginia Parent Connections Web site. For back to school, see “All About Me,” a fill-in-the-blanks booklet that parent and child complete together to help a teacher get to know the students. You'll find pages for listing information about likes and dislikes, allergies and medications, and important people and their contact information.
Parent Involvement Podcasts Offer Fresh Ideas
State and district leaders will appreciate this new series of podcasts from ARCC at Edvantia. Each highlights a different way to improve student learning through parent involvement. Developed with the National Center for Family Literacy, the series features strategies for success and interviews with such experts as Dr. Pedro Noguera. Topics include creating an inviting school climate, communicating with parents in writing, involving parents in reading, and more. Listen now.
Online Idea Swap for Educators
On the Open Educational Resources Commons Web site, teachers at all grade levels and subject areas can find free lessons and resources from all over the world. They can also rate others’ submissions, suggest revisions, and post their own resources. The site is produced by the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education.

Rural Schools Boost Math and Science:
Edvantia Forum Shares Lessons Learned
Want to know how? Sign up to receive the proceedings of Edvantia’s celebration of 10 years of the Rural Systemic Initiative. This National Science Foundation program has helped many rural schools improve teaching and learning. We held a forum on July 16 in Washington, DC, and now we’re preparing proceedings. The Forum on Leveraging a Legacy of Leadership in Mathematics and Science Education brought together rural practitioners from across the United States and representatives of federal agencies involved with math and science education. Together, the participants discussed lessons learned and what’s next. Get on the mailing list and we’ll send you a PDF copy of the proceedings as soon as it’s ready.
