STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO ARTICLE IN THE TENNESSEAN
EDVANTIA INNOCENT OF ALLEGED FRAUD
August 2, 2010 – Edvantia, Inc., a nonprofit educational research and development organization with a proven track record of turning around low performing schools, was recently approved for inclusion on the state vendor list. Edvantia met all of the vetting criteria used by the state, including documentation of its financial integrity and most recent audit report.
In 2004 and again in 2005, Appalachia Educational Laboratory (AEL, the former corporate name for Edvantia) was proactive in bringing a billing error to the attention of Tennessee authorities and was fully cooperative in setting this matter right. In 2007, the company provided full restitution for the amount at issue as well as paying the State of Tennessee's investigative and legal costs. In the meantime, Edvantia has continued its contracts and grants with the State of Tennessee to the State’s full satisfaction and with no further financial issues.
Under current leadership, the company continues to achieve its mission of applying its expertise in research, evaluation, professional development, and technical assistance to help schools and students succeed.
