National Expert Panel

Anna Chamot, codeveloper of the Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach (CALLA) model. CALLA integrates content-area instruction with language development activities and explicit instruction in learning strategies.

Kathleen Flynn, coauthor of Classroom Instruction that Works with English Language Learners, recently published by ASCD. The book describes ways for mainstream K 6 teachers to adapt strategies to meet the needs of ELLs at different stages of language acquisition, as well as how to use culturally appropriate methods to increase parent involvement in their children's education.
