Writing Better Grant Proposals Webinar
Monday, December 14, 2009 (2:00 - 3:30 p.m. Eastern)

Description: To help educators in our region plan for and develop better grant applications, the ARCC sponsored two free 90-minute webinars featuring Deborah Ward, owner of Ward and Associates, and a nationally recognized proposal writing consultant for education and nonprofit clients. Ward contributes a monthly column to "eSchool News" and is a former columnist for "Education Grants Alert" and has published three books about grant writing.

During the first webinar, Ward provided general grant-writing tips. Specifically, she discussed how to customize grants to meet your needs and those of the funding sources, how to develop programs that address the recent emphasis on innovation, and suggestions for SEA staff charged with preparing requests for proposals to districts and schools. Time was provided for audience questions.

In response to feedback from the first webinar, the second webinar delved more deeply into the role of research and evaluation in developing grant proposals. Dr. John Ross from the ARCC provided background on how research lays the foundation for project development and gave examples and listed resources for finding education research to strengthen your proposal. Dr. Kimberly Good described how to develop a strong evaluation plan and provided examples and resources for developing this critical section of all grant proposals. Deb Ward contributed throughout the webinar, offering examples and advice from her work.
